Spring Make up Tips

March 12, 2010

Spring is about renewal…out with the old, in with the new.

It is important that we start exfoliating our body –at least every other day- to get rid of the dead skin…and hydrate as soon as you get out of the shower while you skin is still damp  Also, shaving is back!  I haven’t seen my legs in weeks!  When you begin shaving on a regular basis, make sure you use a good razor that helps you retain that moisture…otherwise, you will find your legs burn and sting when you get out of the shower.  The air is still dry and hydration will help you body and your legs look great when you do start to wear those sundresses.

Color…Add some!  Start with a brighter blush.  Choose a soft pink or coral shade.  For darker skin tones, choose bolder pinks and corals.  I never recommend brown or dark blush colors.  As they day rolls on, darker shades of blush can get even darker from the combination of the dark pigment in the make up in combination with oil on the skin.  Darker blush will make you look older and create a ruddy look.  The goal is to have a healthy glow!

Also, punch up your lipstick shades.  Put the browns and nude shades away until next winter.  Brighter shades of lipsticks help detract from imperfections.  Your skin will appear more youthful and smoother.  Lines will be less noticeable.

Red is all the rage for Spring…not everyone is comfortable with red, coral, or pink lipstick….if you are one of those people…I am the same.  I go for the same shades in a gloss.  They will give you a brighter look…yet the color will be a bit more shear.

It’s important to  keep your eye make up soft when you are going with brighter lips and cheeks.

Just remember…less is more.  It is important that we accentuate our beauty-not take away from it.  Beauty comes from feeling good about yourself every day.

Think like a dog!

March 9, 2010

Think like a dog!!! Not once do I leave the house even to take the trash to the curb do my dogs forget to greet me when I return as though I was their long lost friend coming home. One dog in particular likes to carry something for me when I return home after a long day away. Sometimes I have to take off a shoe so she can have something to bring into the house. I don’t mind of course. She just wants to be helpful. One Saturday I was vacuuming and I accidentally hit one of my dogs right in the snoot. You know what she did? She immediately got up and began kissing my hand. Was she forgiving me? Did she think it was her fault? Does it really matter? Dogs are quick to forgive and always happy to see you. They are forever willing to do whatever you want to do even if they are sleeping. They will follow you anywhere, sleep at your side and even hang out with you when you are sick. Last week I was sick with vertigo and my oldest dog would not leave my side. She just sat there the whole time watching me. I tried to make her go outside in the morning to relieve herself but she would not leave her post as if it were her job to make sure I was alright. I got to thinking; if we made an effort to think like a dog just once a day, I’m sure the world would be a kinder place. We would not be so judgmental, we would forgive quickly, we would kiss more and we would get our much needed naps. I think I’ll try it.

How to achieve that Oscar Glow for your next big event!

March 7, 2010
I have been helping people get ready for their big events for years…and I usually encourage them to start their beauty routine at least three weeks before their big event.
- most celebrities get spray tans.  You can now achieve a beautiful tan without going in the sun or tanning beds.  If you decide to go to a professional spray tanning salon, make sure you go three weeks before your big event to see what it looks like on your skin…The George Hamilton look is not attractive.  I found that spray tanning makes my skin look dehydrated…If that’s the case for you …use a body moisturizer that has a bit of a self tanner in it.  You will achieve a natural glow and you build over time.
I am not a big fan of a lot of  botox and fillers_  There are so many skin treatments you can use at home to help boost your  glow and soften the appearance of fine lines.  Olay has a new skin treatment called Pro X Intense firming treatment.  It includes five hydrating and skin tightening masks and a firming serum.  Every evening-five nights in a row…you apply this mask…it’s like a cloth that you wrap on your face.  Leave on for 10 minutes and you will see a significant difference in your skin when you are done with the treatments.  It also includes a serum that you apply morning and night before your moisturizers.  I love it!  Especially if you are gearing up for a special occasion and want to have firmer and healthier looking skin
Hollywood glam is all about having natural looking make up.  Every make up artist in Hollywood uses a primer before they apply foundation…this helps smooth out the skin, and makes your pores appear smaller, and diminishes the appearance of lines and wrinkles.  Also, airbrushed make up is all the rage for the same reasons.  You can buy both air brushed make up and primers in the drugstores now.  Revlon and Sally Hanson carry them.
Hair!  Get your hair cut three to four weeks before your big day!  You want to make sure you have a fresh cut  however,  leave time to learn how to style your new do or let it grow a little should your cut end up being a bit shorter than you anticipated.  Use hydrating products that keep the frizzies down and if you are planning on wearing an updo…don’t wash your hair that day.  Your hair will cooperate better if it is dirty.  If you want to freshen up your hair and remove oil, try a spray on dry shampoo before you style.
Again, my motto is less is more, and don’t wait until the week of your next big event….start several weeks before your big day.

6 months to live – try 4 years and counting!

March 4, 2010

One of the greatest inspirations you could ever have to be a better person and give back is my friend Lori Zudell. She has been one of the guiding lights in my life and I hope her story will be for you as well. Upon coming up with the idea for the show, “Courage and Grace”, I could think of no one better to highlight than her!
Diagnosed with colon cancer and given 6 months to live, today she not only is she alive… she THRIVES!. And that was 4 years ago. Since the taping of this interview she has gone on to do amazing things in the area of Healing Arts. Check out her website www.helpingyouthrive.com . This is one of my stories from the Courage & Grace Series. If you have a story of Courage & Grace to share. Please make a post or contact me.

Skin care tips for moms on the go

March 1, 2010

Either as a make up artist or just someone trying to find neat ideas to pass along to others I’m always looking for the lastest ways to be pretty for less.  I’ve found a few things at your local drugstore that may do just that!  The first is a microdermabrasion product by Olay that exfoliatates in a big way, cleaning off your dead skin to bring up your inner glow from beneath.  This is a big breakthrough in home care because at salons and spas this can cost sooo much and it’s really good for your skin.  The next big tip is to actually go with those drug store brand beauty products, my two favorites are Revlon and Loreal.  They are as good as department store brands and in some cases made by the same people at a lot lower cost since your not paying for the expensive packaging or the pretty girl behind the counter.  Of course this comes with one exception, foundation.    I recommend you spend the time and money to go to the department stores for this as it’s not easy to get a good match for your color.  Hopefully the store you pick has a talented and skilled make up person to guide your decision.  The last product that will save a lot of time and money scared me a little at first.  The thought of doing my own waxing at home seemed like self-inflicted torture.  I actually managed to ‘pull it off’ (pun intended)!  With the Sally Hansen Hair Removal Kit I did my own waxing and saved a ton of time and money.

It’s important to find some places to save where we can so we can either put money way for the future and our own stability as well as save time that we can use for balance in life.  I hope this helps you do a little of both.

Busy mom tips to getting ready in a flash

March 1, 2010

This is a clip from a segment I did on the Daily Buzz with tips and products to help busy Moms look and feel great with the limited time they have.  They say the average woman spends 54 minutes a day getting ready. I don’t know who they are or where they found women who have 54 minutes to themselves, but I wanted to help real women make the most of their time .  I found a bunch of products that in one way or another save you time and look out for your best beauty interests.

The first one is a Olay Botanical Fusion, it cleanses and moisturizes in one product so you don’t have to spend time basting on the lotion after your shower…there’s a few minutes back in your life.  The next one is a dry shampoo.  A lot of companies make this and it is a total time-saver.  It cleans away the oil, dirt and residue so you don’t have to wash your hair everyday.  Some even come with a color that can handle root issues in case you need to buy a little time between salon visits.  There is also a product by Bliss called “Love Handler” this was kind of a novelty thing I threw in here but it’s kind of cool.  I need to throw in a disclaimer too, I’m not saying this product is a sub for actually exercising but if you can’t get to the gym this helps reduce bloating and swelling.   If this came in a vat at Sam’s Club wouldn’t we all sleep in it?!  The last one is called, ‘Go Smile’.  It’s a little vile you crack and rub on your teeth that cleans, whitens and freshens your breath.  If you’ve got a last-minute meeting or hot date and need a quick freshen up, this is the one.

Anyway, sometimes it’s tips and tricks, sometimes it’s products or empowerment, but I hope something in this segment helps you save the time for your to look hot and be successful!
